"Karen Ruggero, lead cake designer, worked in the film industry doing visual effects for some of its largest movie, commercial, and television show projects. The hours were long, the rooms dark, and the creativity she longed for just didn't exist in her position. She had worked in the restaurant industry for many years prior and had been baking from scratch her entire life.
Feeding people delicious sweets had always given her joy. After an extended break from the film industry, and watching one too many episodes of Ace of Cakes and Cake Challenge on the Food Network, she found herself taking cake decorating classes just for the fun of it.
She loved it! It was a way for her to combine her love of cooking and her background in art in a wonderful end product that made people smile. She had at last found her niche! She took every opportunity to create for family and friends and soon word began to spread. Thus the birth of Katana Cakes took root." (Caption, Katana Cakes 2014)
